Been a Long Time!

Hi everyone.  I just wanted to give you all a brief update with what is going on at The Rabbit & Cavy Directory:

Originally I was going to turn this website into a database driven site but my plans have changed.

I purchased a domain http://www.rabbitbreeder.net/  just the other day, and intend to make that into a large rabbit breeder resource website.  I wanted the dot com site but some company owns it for no good reason other than to squeeze a lot of money out of someone who wants it..and I don’t want it bad enough, esp when dot net is available!

I am planning to have all our usual rabbit breeder listings, similar to how I’ve got them set up now, just in a database, plus I am planning lots of new features such as article segments, rabbit show segments/clubs, and also some forums-both public, and private areas for members.

Still in the planning stage, but making good progress.  I’ve got a wheelbarrow load of new software and books to read through - some of the programming languages and such are new to me and I’m trying to familiarize myself with at least the basics before I just jump in.

I am truly sorry to those people who’ve been emailing me asking for new listings and changes.  I’ve got a couple planned to do, but for the most part, I’m not going to update or add to this existing website or it will take away from my work on the other one.

I think the new website will better serve our rabbit breeders community much better than the other, especially since members will be able to change and update their own listing as they see fit, plus there will be many useful segments that all have to do with rabbit breeders/breeding!

Please check back later for more updates.  I can’t really put a timeline on this project because I have to add several personal and ongoing tasks to my available time- (graduating teen, two other active teens, rabbit shows, college visits, never-ending stateleague soccer and of course rabbit and horse chores…if I didn’t have to work or sleep it would be great!)

ps…I’ll be looking for some help with this project when I get closer to finishing.  Mods for the forum areas, experienced breeders for our ‘ask questions’ area for new breeders, plus other stuff as it comes to mind.  Please email me if you think you can lend a hand!  racefan24@verizon.net

Jan 10th News

Hi everyone!  As you know, I’ve closed the directory to all new listing requests and to all minor changes to existing listings so I can work on redoing this website.

I am planning to finish up with all the requests as listed in our current ‘queue’ (to find our queue - look down the links on the left side of this blog - when you reach the word ‘queue’ just click on it and our current or last queue list will open) before I begin working on the site though, and will email each breeder once I’ve finished your request.  I also have a few change requests to add to our queue-will do that within this week.

Sorry, I’ve been tied up with some quite intense personal projects since Jan 1 - and haven’t had time to work on the website at all…….  should be back at it within a few days if all goes as planned!

Christmas break….

I know I should probably be working on this website this morning, but I just have too many other things to do today - I am taking a few days off work here, but it looks like just about every minute is already packed with things to do here at the house.  I’ll be back at working on this site later in the week - also, just a reminder that as of 12/31/06 I am closing The Rabbit & Cavy Directory to any new listings or minor breeder listing changes, and it will be closed for at least 2 months while I work on a major overhaul of the site.

Again, sorry for this recent delay….

I know many of you have recently asked when you are going to be put into our directory - over this last week or so I have just been exceedingly busy - sold a horse, rabbit litters born, Christmas shopping, colds and other illnesses, and many family obligations.   I just simply have not had a good block of time to work on this website. 

Within a day or so I will update our queue list and try to get several listings and changes done.  Thank you for your patience everyone!   : )

Been Busy….

Sorry everyone, I’ve been really busy over the past few days, and I’ve had to spend a little time updating our other website;  LaReau Lops & Cavies.   Check it out - we just published some rabbit resources available for anyone to use; Basic Rabbit Care & Breeding booklet, Rabbit Show Checklist, and just yesterday we published a printable Rabbit Show Entry Form.

I’ll be back at working on The Rabbit & Cavy Directory over this coming weekend.

What Would YOU Like to See?

Since I am planning a major overhaul of this directory website over winter, I’d like some input on what breeders would like to see here…..please leave your constructive comments after this post…..

Under The Weather…..

Sorry everyone….I’ve been under the weather with a flu-type bug over the past few days and haven’t worked on my websites.

No New Listings Today-Sorry……

This morning I spend a couple of hours organizing my photo and graphics files on my computer - what a mess!  I am trying to get ready to start accepting more pictures for the breed gallery and just couldn’t until I had all this straightened out…

I also spent some time organizing my email folders - geeez my finger is sore from deleting!

I did find an email folder for breeder change requests, I had temporarily set up a month or so ago, when I was having trouble with my server/forms…and so I found several more change requests for listings.  Most of these are not on the current queue list and I will probably jump to these emails before I make changes to the more recent ones on the queue.  I will continue to put in a few NEW listings each day as my time allows.

Last day off before I go back to work (after this nice long holiday weekend) and of course I’ve procrastinated with many of my own rabbit chores….so I am signing off and will be back tomorrow with new listings and such.

I am having trouble getting started with turning this site into a database site - I’d love all the breeder listings to be in a database so they’d be so much easier to manage and put in - if anyone is experienced in this and willing to help me just get started with some advice I sure would appreciate it.  You can email me directly at racefan24@verizon.net
